Community College East Gippsland is investigating effective use of ICT in a variety of situations.
Classroom delivery is enhanced with use of ICT. This is particularly so with CGEA / VCAL classes, where Digital Stories are making their presence felt. This was a direct result of our involvement in Learnscope during 2006. Staff were provided with PD relating to a number of e-learning tools, including Digital Stories.
Aged Care and Children's Services trainers are incorporating more PowerPoint presentations into their delivery, and are encouraging students to access specific websites to enhance their learning.
A successful application for a Community Engagement Project under the Australian Flexible Leanring Framework in 2007 has seen Community College East Gippsland working with staff and volunteers from 11 community centres (Neighbourhood Houses / Resource Centres / Community Centres - ACFE and non-ACFE) in East Gippsland to enhace understanding of, and skills with a number of Web 2.0 tools. These include blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, flickr photo sharing, podcasting, del.ic.ious bookmarking, mashups, along with LiveClassroom as a means of providing professional development without particpants leaving the comfort of their own locality. This has lead to strengthening partnerships between the participating organisations.
The Community College is also exploring options for on-line delivery - either completely on-line or in a blended delivery mode where classroom sessions are supplemented by on-line access to course materials, othe students, trainers etc. To this end two staff of the Community College have recentlly undertaken TAFE VC training as the first step towards being able to offer on-line courses.
Community College East Gippsland was selected to undertake a trial project as part of AccessACE. This involved 'converting' our Safe Food Handling course materials so they could effectively be used in on-line delivery of the unit THHGHS01B - Follow workplace hygiene procedures. The first course was recently offered to a 'trial' group of participants - and we have advertised the availability of Safe Food Handling on-line in our latest brochure. The course was conducted in real-time (synchronous) sessions using LiveClassroom to enable direct communication between the partifcpants in rempte locations and the trainer in Bairnsdale. Some Assessments were completed during the on-line sessions, and others were completed in the students' own time and emailed to the trainer.
